Loveland Woman Who Donated Eggs Searching for Missing Hens
Sara donated 1,000s of eggs from her farm to help out during the beginning of the pandemic. Now, due to having to evacuate because of the fires, 80 of her hens are missing.
We had the story in March on how Sara Mayer and her business 'Sara's Pick of the Coop', which normally provides fresh farm eggs to the natural grocers in our area, had been donating eggs to the public on a 'pay what you can' basis.
The Longmont Times-Call now reports that after having to evacuate over 1,000 hens from her Berthoud-area farm to her Johnstown location due to the East-Troublesome fire, about 80 of them are unaccounted for.
Mayer told the Longmont-Times that four crates, amounting to about 80 hens, ended up being missing. One crate contained her favorite, named 'Mama Hen.'
From the article:
It’s a bummer,” “I keep reaching out and hoping. I’m not trying to send the sheriff after everyone who came to help. I just want my girls back. … It was really good the way people showed up and helped. It was just one bad egg.
Anyone with information on the missing hens is urged to reach out to saraspickofthe coop@gmail.com.
Mama hen and friends are still missing:(.
Please if you find them then me know! They are my buddies and my livelihood. 40+ eggs every day is a really big deal.
