You Can Help Pick Colorado’s Next State Park
Colorado Parks and Wildlife is inviting YOU to come up with some ideas for our newest State Parks. Officials are looking for recommendations and ideas from people for properties that could become our next state park.
According to Dan Prenzlow director of Colorado Parks and Wildlife, a record number of visitors have checked out State Parks and public lands during the pandemic. Getting outside and enjoying some fresh air is so important for the mind, body and soul.
Colorado recently has more than 40 state parks, including the newest called Fisher's Peak that opened to the public at the end of October near the New Mexico border.
When sharing your ideas for future parks, there are a few things to keep in mind for the places that you're suggesting:
• Provide outstanding nature-based recreation
• Conserve natural resources
• Meet Colorado’s needs
• Provide community value
• Support a financially sustainable system
So if you know a good spot or two, feel free to share them because how COOL would it be to one day say "hey, this is the state park that I picked out?" No word on whether you get naming rights.
I don't have any off the top of my head but I do have a bucket list of parks I want to hit very soon. Happy exploring.
