High Hopes All But Dashed For ‘Great’ Colorado Sports Complex
It really is a sad disappointment, as it looks like the much-anticipated sports complex in Windsor has all but come to a complete end.
For over a decade, teams all around Colorado and the region have looked forward to the Future Legends Sports Complex; now, it looks like if the dream happens at all, it will look much different.
What's the latest on the complex?
Future Legends Sports Complex in Colorado Goes Into Receivership
It was in mid-August of 2024, that news got out that Future Legends was behind in payments; payments to creditors, payments to contractors, payments to keep lights on. By the end of that month, the whole complex was put into receivership.
What Does 'Receivership' Mean for Colorado's Future Legends?
According to KUNC and BizWest, the complex has been turned over by the courts to a firm that now takes control of the project; making sure bills are paid, and the property doesn't fall into disrepair. Basically, it's their project now: They get the keys, they can hire and fire people.
Why Was Future Legends Put Into Receivership?
The owner, Jeff Katofsky, and Future Legends owes $45 million, on six loans that were taken out to create the project's stadium, dome, and team dormitory. Falling so far behind in loan payments, the lender asked a judge to appoint a receiver.
According to KUNC and BizWest, though the stadium and the dome have been built, the dome doesn't have working bathrooms, and the dormitory has only partially been started.
What Will Become of Future Legends?
For a project that had the area dreaming of a little "sports town" with the stadium, dorm, restaurants, shops and more, now it has people asking, "what will happen?"
- Will there still be games played at the complex while it's in receivership?
- *The Northern Colorado Hailstorm have not cancelled/moved any games.
- Can Katofsky get the project back if he comes up with the money owed?
- How long would he have to do that?
- Will another developer come in with the $45 million and continue the project?
Again, it's just disappointing that things haven't worked out as planned; this could be something Northern Colorado could be very proud of, if it gets back on track towards completion.
