Big Dreams Holding Things Together For Big Colorado Sports Complex
Future Legends Sports Complex in Windsor, Colorado, could become a premiere youth sports destination. "Could" seems to be the operative word, however, these days.
As of the summer of 2024, the complex is being used by teams and has a few great facilities; the "big complex," though, seems very far away.
Seems like only dreams are holding things together for the complex that was projected to attract 1 million people every year by 2023.
It's tough to see this project struggle, as it has been something that the community has been excited about for nearly 10 years: A big sports complex with fields, a stadium, a hotel, restaurants, and more. It has had the feel of it being its own little "sports town" in east Windsor.
Future Legends Sports Complex in Windsor, Colorado, Struggling
When this project first popped up, it was going to the "World's largest sports park" at Highway 257 and County Road 74, just north of Windsor. In 2018, it was scaled back and moved into Windsor to the existing Diamond Valley Sports Complex.
In the fall of 2020, construction began on Future Legends Sports Complex; four years later, the overall scope of what the project would become is hard to see happening.
While some things are OK at Future Legends, including the multipurpose dome (which everybody loves), it's still a distant cry from the forecasted "Future Legends" that they envisioned.

I have a friend who is a local softball coach, and he stressed how he and his team enjoyed the dome. Local teams, the Northern Colorado Owls (baseball) and Northern Colorado Hailstorm, and Northern Colorado Rain (minor league soccer) do host games at the complex.
Future Legends Looking at Lawsuits and Liens
The 6,500-seat TickeStarter Stadium, if built, would be great, as well as the dorm, and all other things they want to do. According to BizWest, however, the owner of the Future Legends is looking at $22 million in lawsuits and liens (as of August 2024), which has stalled construction.

In addition to legal issues, the town of Windsor, according to BizWest, has mandated that Future Legends make public safety upgrades to the complex by November 2024, or the town will not renew its temporary occupancy permit.
Many in the Northern Colorado community highly support the project, and are hoping things get on track to complete the dream project.
