Join me as I travel around Northern Colorado in search of NoCo's Greatest Pie.  This week, a stop at Santeramo's Pizza House and Italian Food in Greeley.

In pursuit of Northern Colorado's Greatest Pie, my 'Pizza My Heart' series took myself and my cohort Jake into Greeley for lunch at Santeramo's on August 28, 2019.

Santeramo's has a lot of history. According to the Greeley Tribune, the recipes date back to 1941 when the current operator's (Mike Sarentamo) grandparents immigrated from Italy.  The original restaurant operated on 16th Street from 1962 until 1987.

Almost 20 years later, Mike and his son opened up a new Santeramo's in this great old house off of 10th Avenue and 13th Street.

They do have a great 'old Italian' feel inside. Lots of old wood, a picture of Marlon Brando (ask about their 'Godfather' mug of beer) and a great ambiance.  They also have a very nice outdoor patio with lots of shade for a summer day.  It's not really the kind of place to bring your softball team, though.

I'll be honest, I was bummed that day that this mission is about PIZZA because they had 1) a manicotti special going on, and 2) on Wednesday's you can get 'All You Can Eat Pasta.' I am a pasta freak!

Jake and I ordered one of their specialty hand-tossed pies, the Santeramo's Special, with sausage, onions, green peppers, and mushrooms.

The pie was tasty: The sauce and sausage were great and the vegetables tender. I was not a fan, however, on how they slice up the pie. It was a lot of small pieces.

With 647 Google reviews, Santeramo's gets a 4.5

My 'Pizza My Heart' rating: 4.0 out of 5 Pepperonis.
