Join me as I travel across Northern Colorado in search of NoCo's Greatest Pie. This week, a stop at Fonta's Pizza in Greeley.

Fonta's has been around since 1966; I'm not sure, but that's got to put them way up on the list as 'oldest pizza joints in Greeley.' At my visit, I think I saw an enlarged photo from the ribbon-cutting back then.

Fonta's is located in southeast Greeley, off of 8th Avenue and 11th Avenue - at 'The Triangle,' as I call it. This was my first time at Fonta's on November 13, 2019.

The place is much bigger on the inside than the outside might infer. Lots of great seating, with tables, booths and community tables.

I ordered up one of their nearly 20 specialty pies, The Bear (UNC, Bears, I get it.) Looking back now, I should not only have gotten a lot of mushrooms (because my cohort Jake was unavailable this day and he does not like mushrooms) but I see now they have CASHEWS as a topping. Sounds tasty.

The Bear comes with red onions, green peppers, sausage, and ham. The pie is a thin crust; Neopolitan-style.

That sucker was pretty tasty. The crust was cooked correctly, the toppings were very good (VERY good sausage), and the 'small' was just right for me (with two slices leftover.)

I guess I think the sauce could have had a little more flavor. Overall, I DID like The Bear.

Google Reviews (403 of them) give Fonta's an averaged rating of 4.5.  I am going to disagree, just a little.

My 'Pizza My Heart' Rating: 4.3 Pepperonis out of 5.
