If you were planning on heading out and doing anything this weekend, you are probably better off canceling your plans.

Colorado State Patrol, AAA and the Colorado Department of Transportation are strongly urging drivers to stay home during this weekend's snowstorm.

If your weekend plans included errands such as going to the grocery store, your best bet is to take care of whatever you were planning on doing this weekend as soon as possible.

The Colorado Department of Transportation will likely close down certain roads as a safety precaution, depending on the severity of the storm. If you are planning on traveling, be sure to arrive at your destination before the storm does.

AAA Colorado offers a couple of tips for winter preparedness while in Colorado:

Time - Allow for plenty of time for travel between destinations during hazardous road conditions, such as snow and ice.

Emergency Kit - It is always a smart idea to have some sort of emergency kit in your vehicle. Winter driving emergency kits should contain some type of sand or kitty litter to assist in traction.

Wiper Blades - New wiper blades can help you see better. If you are experiencing streaking, bouncing, or screeching, it's time for new wiper blades.

Gas - Keep your gas tank at least half full to prevent gas line freezes.
