The Weld County Sheriff's Office is warning the community of deputy impersonators calling residents and asking for personal information.

According to a news release from WCSO, multiple members of the community notified them that they were contacted by someone who claimed to be a WCSO deputy. The caller states that there's a warrant for the citizen's arrest, and asks for their name and home address.

WCSO says that should you receive a similar call, do not provide any information about yourself to this individual, as arrest warrants are never resolved over the phone. If you do receive this call, ask for the individual's name, phone number, and badge number, then hang up immediately and call 970-356-4015 option 1.

The sheriff's office will also never accept payment in the form of gift cards, prepaid cards, or any other type of credit through any store. Scammers sometimes ask victims to retrieve one of these items and to give them the card number over the phone. Don't give these individuals any of your money.
