The Larimer County Juvenile Gun Safety Coalition put out the PSA to get parents/adults out of their comfort zones when it comes to asking about other parents'/family members' firearm storage. According to Larimer County, the message has the backing of all Larimer County law enforcement agencies and all school districts in Larimer County.
From the Superintendent of the Estes Park School District:
Our top priority is keeping students safe, at school and in the community. The ‘Be Awkward… Ask’ campaign is a simple but powerful reminder that safety starts with honest and brave conversations..
In the PSA, a mom is shown doing all these things to protect her young daughter when the daughter is with her; then then mom [awkward to her] texts the parent of a playdate about their gun safety.
