Colorado has a lot of summer events, even many free summer events; Loveland has a free summer event that has been going since 2022, and it's a mess.

What is the Cake War in Loveland, Colorado?

Imagine a water balloon fight during the summer: running around trying not to get hit with one, but if you do, it's fun. Loveland's Cake War is a lot like that, except that it's a giant cake fight. The "war" takes place at Kroh Park in north Loveland.

The 2026 Cake War takes place on Saturday, August 22. Registration/setup begins at 12:00 noon with the Cake War beginning at 1:00 p.m. Spectators (no fee) are welcomed.

A Free 'Free for All' in North Loveland

There's no entry fee, just bring a cake and clothes that you're not afraid to get destroyed by hurled cake. The event is open to adult and kids (kids under 18 need to have a parent/guardian to sign.) I can see needing to bring a bunch of water, as you can get pretty dehydrated running around trying to hit someone with cake.

With all the softball games and soccer matches that have happened at Kroh Park since it opened, the thought of the spirited mayhem of a giant cake fight is a completely different kind of competition.

From the organizers of the event:

Not everything has to be so serious and structural all the time. Every once in a while it's okay to let loose, be a kid, and have a little bit of fun, only this isn't a little bit. THIS IS EXTREMELY FUN!

MORE LOVELNAD - A Look at the Last Day of the Downtown Safeway

When I paid my last visit to the Downtown Safeway on its last day, October 25, 2025, it was with trepidation: I didn't want to see how sad it probably looked, but like watching a wreck on the highway, it was hard to not see the how it looked.
