Weld County officially sentenced a man on Monday, Aug. 23 to 24 years in prison on two counts of criminal charges.

On December 18, 2020, 43-year-old Christopher Holder kidnapped his then-girlfriend against her will and proceeded to lead law enforcement on a high-speed chase throughout Weld County.

Holder was traveling through Fort Lupton on Highway 85 when an officer first tried to pull him over. The officer tried to make the traffic stop after observing Holder swerving in and out of lanes.

According to the release, when Holder didn't stop for the initial officer, he pulled onto the wrong side of the road traveling approximately 100 miles an hour. Reportedly 12 vehicles had to pull over to avoid a head-on collision with Holder's vehicle.

When the sentencing hearing was taking place, Weld Deputy District Attorney Lillie Parker said:

He endangered the victim to the point where I cannot believe she survived. He endangered other drivers on that road [...] It's a miracle no one ended up dead.

Towards the end of the high-speed pursuit, Holder eventually stopped after flipping the car in the air twice after hitting railroad tracks. Oddly enough, Holder and the victim were incredibly lucky as the car landed about 50 feet away from a moving train.

Officers proceeded to then chase Holder on foot as he exited the vehicle upon impact and attempted to run from police. He also injected himself with narcotics and swallowed a number of pills prior to his arrest.

Officers say it's a miracle the victim survived, even with wearing her seatbelt. When law enforcement found her in the car, she was handcuffed and severely injured.

For the official sentencing, according to the release, Holder pled guilty to one count of second-degree kidnapping and one count of vehicular assault. He will serve his sentence in the Colorado Department of Corrections.

The Weld Count D.A. recognizes and thanks the agency involved in the initial pursuit and arrest: Fort Lupton Police, Eaton Police, Platteville Police, Milliken Police, Ault Police, and the Weld County Sheriff's Office.
