Wow: Storm Bringing Colorado’s First Blizzard Warning Since March of 2019

Though the Fort Collins area will see only a trace of snow up to 3 inches, not too far east of the Choice City will be included in this blizzard warning.

On December 13, 2021, the high temperature for Fort Collins was 65°. This year will look much different, with this major storm system pushing through the area. The northeastern part of Colorado is going to get the worst of it.

You may remember the term "Bomb Cyclone" from mid-March of 2019. We were just starting to reel from the pandemic, and then we heard "Bomb Cyclone;" it definitely sounded ominous. It ended up leaving hundreds of people stranded on the roads, roads and highways closed, and over 1,000 flights out of DIA cancelled,

The National Weather Service has issued the first Blizzard Warning for Colorado since that huge storm of 2019. This one is in effect from Midnight, the morning of Tuesday, December 13, until Midnight, the morning of Wednesday, December 14.

Looking at the above map, Ault and Pierce could be under the warning (or at least see some of the affects of the blizzard) which is expected to bring 4-10 inches of snow and strong winds, with gusts up to 60 mph. Eastbound travel along I-76 and I-70 east of Denver is not advised during the warning.

Living in Colorado, you get used to snowy weather; blizzards are another beast. The blowing snow across roads and highways makes things treacherous for travelers. The last thing you'd want is to be caught stranded, when you really didn't need to be out on the roads, at all.
