Rocky Mountain Romance: Colorado’s 2 Favorite Love Songs
It takes two to make a loving couple, so Colorado should have two love songs, right? Our old friends in the diamond business did a study to find them.
The Denver-based Shane Company, celebrating its 50th year in business, is famous for those radio commercials with Tom Shane, and the voice-over at the end:
Now YOU have a friend in the diamond business.
Those commercials have been around for decades; good for Tom. I wonder how many customers have arrived at his stores just because of them. It has to be in the tens of thousands.
Shane Co. recently celebrated their soft spot for love and love songs by studying trends in searched love songs. I also have a soft spot for love songs, and being in the radio industry, this whole thing caught my attention.
WHY TWO LOVE SONGS?
They wanted to highlight older generations' favorite 'classic' love song across the country, as well as what is the most favorite one of the 'modern era' of today's radio hits and social media.
HOW DID THEY GO ABOUT TRACKING THE SONGS DOWN?
They used Spotify's Playlist Miner. It 'aggregates' all the playlists out thee that their users have created. Within those playlists, they searched 'love songs,' which they used to determine the 'modern era' ones ranked by the number of streams; they searched again with the term 'classic love songs' to determine the older generations' favorite.
After that they used Google Trends search data over the last 12 months, to complete their 'Most Popular' lists.
WHAT IS COLOARDO'S FAVORITE/TOP-SEARCHED 'MODERN ERA' LOVE SONG?
Florence + The Machine: You've Got The Love.
Ya, I'm a little surprised, too. Though I have seen Florence + The Machine in concert and she/the band are incredible.
WHAT IS COLOARDO'S FAVORITE/TOP-SEARCHED 'CLASSIC' LOVE SONG?
The Eagles: One of These Nights.
Again, I'm a little surprised. Not that I don't like The Eagles, but it's not the kind of love song I think of when I think of love songs.
Wyoming's 'classic' favorite is George Michael's 'Careless Whisper.'
All of this is sure to open up an argument on what 'love songs' Coloradans really love.
