Once I started making healthy life choices concerning how much alcohol I drank, other good life choices were pretty quick to follow.

Turns out the perfect amount of alcohol for me is none at all. If I have it, it interferes with just about everything I do. No good. It was a big decision to eliminate it, but since I have, I haven't looked back.

I'm glad I didn't get tangled up in other substances. When I hear of people trying to kick pill addictions, heroin, meth or other drugs, in a weird way, I'm thankful that my problem was mainly with alcohol. My body was in a slight imbalance as I got off of it, but something tells me it was probably a bit easier than if I had become totally addicted to something else.

I was happy to be asked by to help with an effort that spreads messages of positive life choices for kids and teens. I'll be hosting Team Fort Collins Simply Red fundraiser on Feb. 13, 2015 at the Hilton Fort Collins, and teaching kids the dangers of drugs and alcohol is the mission we'll be supporting.

The Lamplighter Award winner will also be announced.

“The Lamplighter Award is presented to an individual or couple who has dedicated significant time, money, and/or resources as a volunteer to issues related to substance abuse and the youth in our community.”
