Minnesota Family Honors Prince With Epic ‘Purple Rain’ Holiday Light Display
A family in Minnesota is using their massive annual holiday light display to honor the late Prince this year.
The Staudt family of Chaska, Minnesota, who since 2013 have put on an epic Christmas light show outside their home, pay homage to The Purple One this December with a display featuring over 10,000 purple-hued lights set to the artist's iconic hit "Purple Rain."
"We've always been casual Prince fans, but his passing really hit us," patriarch Mike Staudt told the Star Tribune about his family's "Lights on Pascolo" display. "We regretted not taking advantage of having such an iconic star so close to us and never attended any of the shows or concerts at Paisley."
"Prince's passing meant so much to our community that we decided to do a short dedication during the intermission of our Christmas light show to honor him," Staudt, who said he spends the entire year preparing for the light show, added. "We've received compliments on this part of our show and a few people have even mention it made them teary-eyed."
See the illuminated Prince tribute in the video above or, if you'd like to experience it for yourself, head over to 3850 Pascolo Bend in Chaska, Minnesota. The light show can be viewed between 5:40 to 9 p.m., Sunday through Thursday, or between 5:00 to 9:40 p.m. on Friday and Saturday through the end of December.
Prince passed away on April 21 at age 57.
