Is the Cyclone Coaster Coming Back to Colorado’s Lakeside Amusement Park in 2026?
It's one of Colorado's most famous attractions, the Cyclone Coaster at Lakeside Amusement Park near Denver. It hasn't run since 2022; could the coaster be making a comeback in 2026?
Why Hasn't the Cyclone Coaster Been Running at Lakeside?
In 2022, a person was injured riding the coaster and according to Denver 7, state regulators had Lakeside shut the coaster down until they found a way to make it safer (many people would stick their arms/hands up, even though they were warned.)
Will the 2026 Season See Lakeside Re-Starting Cyclone Rides?
In March of 2026, the gang at American Coaster Enthusiasts posted about there being "testing" with the Cyclone:
The wooden thrill-ride was installed at Lakeside in 1940; 32 years after the park opened in 1908. The park is Colorado's oldest amusement park, which comes with not only the fun of nostalgia, but also the difficulties in being so old.
The tower at Lakeside (which you pass by when riding the Cyclone) the Tower of Jewels was the tallest building (150 feet) in all of Colorado when it was installed in 1908 as part of the former Main Entrance. With 5,000 lights on that towner, you have to believe that Lakeside was a true gem for the area, back then.

When you visit Lakeside's website, they do note that "Cyclone Coaster and some other rides are currently Closed." One other ride of note that doesn't seem to have been running since 2020 is the kiddie Dragon roller coaster.

Riding the Cyclone is almost a "right of passage" in Colorado: the fact that it's kind of rickety and seems "dangerous" has added to the allure of buying a ticket to ride. It's hard to say what safety features that they might have added; here's hoping it gets back to its thrill rides.
