Join me as I travel around Northern Colorado in search of 'NoCo's Greatest Pie.' This week, a stop in my hometown, Origins.

Origins has been at the corner of 5th Street and Lincoln Avenue in Downtown Loveland for about five years. It's one of the most 'trendy' places in town.

My 'Pizza My Heart' search brought my cohort Jake and I into Origins for lunch on January 30, 2020.  They have a lunch special Monday through Friday where you save $2 on pizzas. Score.

The place was jumping that Thursday afternoon; I even ran into a friend I hadn't seen in a while.

The 12-inch pizzas are wood-fired, Neopolitan style pies that came out in about 10-15 minutes, fresh and hot from the oven.

At Origins, all of their pizzas are named after famous artists. Jake and I got two pies, the Bernini for myself, while Jake ordered the Kahlo.

The Bernini, named after the famed Italian sculptor, is tomato-based with Italian fennel sausage, mozzarella, and onions.

The Kahlo, named after the Mexican painter Frida Kahlo, is a spicy white-sauce pie with green chile, pulled pork, red onions, mozzarella, cilantro and queso fresco (Mexican cheese).

I told Jake that the first bite of my pizza brought me back to Shakey's Pizza; not that that's a bad thing. I think it was the tasty sausage that reminded me of old times.

Jake's was really good, too. Holy moly, was it spicy. I only had one slice; that was plenty for me on that one.

Google Reviews (571 of them) give Origins and average of 4.2 out of 5 stars. I'm going to agree. Though thin, I wish the pizzas had been crispier.

My 'Pizza My Heart' review: 4.2 out of 5 pepperonis. Thanks, gang.
