CSU Alum Becky Hammon Becomes First Woman To Serve As Head Coach

Becky Hammon was (and still is) a legend at Colorado State University as a basketball star and now, she's blazing a trail for women in the NBA world.

Hammon, who has been an assistant coach with the San Antonio Spurs since 2014 got her first shot (and the first shot for any woman) to serve as a head coach in the NBA when Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich was ejected in the first half of a game against the Los Angeles Lakers Wednesday night.

According to ESPN, Hammon called it a "big deal and substantial moment" after the game

Hammon, who played for the WNBA's San Antonio Stars where she was a 6 time all star and has been in the city of San Antonio since 2007. She is becoming a legend there and in the entire basketball world by reaching milestones that no other woman has ever reached.

Hammon holds most records in CSU basketball history including most career points, three pointers and field goals AND... was a 3 time All American for the program from 1995-1999.

Becky Hammon has been in the running for several NBA head coaching jobs over the past few years and CSU actually was interested in bringing her in for the men's basketball job back in 2018 but she wasn't interested in leaving the NBA.
