CPW Commission Banned Colorado Wildlife Contest
In privately organized contests, Coloradans compete for cash and other prizes by hunting specific wildlife, usually to help limit animal populations in particular areas.
In this state, 'specific wildlife' includes black-tailed, white-tailed and Gunnison's prairie dogs, along with Richardson's ground squirrels, according to KOAA News.
However, all wildlife contests have been banned beginning June 30, 2020 following a vote earlier this week by the Colorado Parts and Wildlife Commission.
"I believe we’re still leaving the opportunity for private landowners to manage their properties,” said Commissioner Marvin McDaniel to KOAA News. “At the same time, I believe that for these hunting contests, the staff recommendation [to ban] is a good one.”
