To say that Colorado loves its pets is like saying Colorado has mountains and is above sea level. These things we know already. It does make us proud when we have the numbers to back it up.

SafeWise - "The authority on safety and home security news" recently released their survey on The Most Pet-Friendly States in America. They ranked the states based on the strictest anti-cruelty laws, highest percentage of no-kill shelters, and the most pet-friendly hotels and parks. They also included data from the Bureau of Labor, the Animal Legal Defense Fund (ADLF), and online pet resources like BringFido.com.

The Northeast did very well as Maine, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island all finished in the top 10.

The Pacific Northwest also fared well as Oregon and Washington finished in the top 10.

The Midwest was right there with them as Colorado and Kansas are in the 10 as well.

Colorado hit right in the middle at #5 as they credit the outdoor life (hiking and skiing), 300 days of sun, and plenty of pet-friendly hotels and trails to enjoy. They also recognize the number of veterinarians in the state (1,900). The one major drawback, as they put it, were cities that ban all fighting breeds, including pit bulls and American bulldogs.

Congrats, Colorado. There's a lot to love here, including the furry friends in our family.
