August has been declared Clear The Shelters Month.

About Clear The Shelters Month

Clear the Shelters is a pet adoption initiative by NBCUniversal and Telemundo-owned television stations that launched nationally in 2015 and has acted as a tremendous aid in finding homes for more than half a million pets nationwide.

In 2021, the nationally recognized campaign led to the adoption of more than 140,000 pets searching for forever homes and helped raise more than $500,000 for local animal shelters across the country.

In Colorado, shelters all over the state have dealt with overcrowdedness at one time or another.

Take the Denver Animal Shelter (DAS), for instance, which is now offering significant discounts on its adoptable shelter animals after seeing an increase in intakes towards the end of 2021.

On top of that, the shelter is just one of over a dozen animal shelters across the state to join in on this year's Clear The Shelter initiative.

"We're still more full than I've ever seen us, even with a lot of animals in foster care," Denver Animal Shelter Service Manager Meghan Dillmore told the Denver Post.
