Christmas tree cutting on the Canyon Lakes Ranger District is rich in the tradition spanning nearly 40 years in the Red Feather Lakes area.

This year, you can help continue this tradition by volunteering. The Canyon Lakes Ranger District is looking for volunteers for one or more days at the cutting site during the two weekends it's open. The weekends are December 3-4 and December 10-11. You can find the site south of Red Feather Lakes and west of Manhattan Road.

Volunteers would work at the entrance, or with Forest Service personnel. Entrance station workers would be responsible for greeting tree cutters, handing out maps of the tree-cutting area, answering questions about prices and road conditions, and checking vehicles have at least 4WD or traction devices.

If you're interested in being a volunteer, you can call 970-295-6702 or email mcbollinger@fs.fed.us
