In Larimer County, rabies cases are more prevalent this time of year. Unfortunately, because of this, four Fort Collins residents were recently exposed to a bat with rabies.

Larimer County Health said in a press release that the individuals received postexposure prophylaxis treatment as a rabies preventative measure.

According to The Coloradoan, "If treated promptly, the disease is nearly 100% curable. Once clinical symptoms appear, the disease is almost always fatal."

Larimer County said that the infected bat is the 10th animal that has tested positive for rabies in the area this year.

If you want to avoid the disease, avoid purposefully coming into contact with wild animals, especially bats. If you do come in contact with rabies, seek treatment as soon as possible.
