Wind and heavy snow from Wednesday’s blizzard caused scores of power outages all along the Front Range.

Xcel said Wednesday night that 290,000 customers had extended power outages at some point Wednesday. According to the Denver Post: Crews were working to restore power until 11 p.m. last night, but as of 9:30 p.m., 51,500 customers were still without power.

Xcel Energy Colorado says about 550 employees responded to outages throughout Colorado, with another 100 expected to join.  Xcel provides power to about 60 percent of the state.

One of our wonderful listeners, Tracey Connell, sent us the pictures of an explosion in Greeley yesterday. It is at 23rd Avenue and Reservoir Road. We assume it was a transformer.
