If you're a fan of longer, warmer days, then the State of Colorado in May and June is the place for you.

As we turn the calendar into May, good news awaits people who love our sunshine - the first "after 8:00 PM sunset" is quite literally on the horizon.

On Wednesday, May 7, the sun is officially forecast to set at precisely 8 PM mountain time. And come Thursday, May 8, the sun will rise at 5:51 AM and set at 8:01 PM, giving us more than 14 hours of sunlight over the state.

Of course by now you know that the longest day of the year is June 20, and while it falls on the 20th this year, it actually rotates between June 20, 21 and 22, because the calendar year is technically 365.5 days long. Guess that keeps things in sync? Not really sure.

On June 20, the sun will rise at roughly 5:30 AM and not set until 8:30, giving us a full 15 hours of glorious sunlight.

So those longer summer days will keep on happening until the 20th of June, at which point the schedule will reverse and our days will begin to get shorter and shorter, until we roll our clocks back in the fall. The shortest day of the year, by the way, is December 20.

Still no official word on whether or not the toilet swirls in the opposite direction there, but I believe Bart Simpson tackled that myth once.
