A 26-year-old man was arrested on Sunday, March 22, following an incident at a Fort Collins motel.

At approximately 8:41 p.m., dispatch for the Larimer County Sheriff's Office received a call about an adult male who was reportedly threatening people with a 10 to 12 inch knife outside of his motel room at the Motel 6 on East Mulberry.

As additional reports came in, police were informed that the man had proceeded to barricade himself in his room. When deputies arrived at the motel, they attempted to contact the suspect, and it was during this time that they learned he possibly had another weapon inside the room in addition to the knife.

The Larimer County Regional SWAT team was called on scene to assist, but the man made significant efforts to barricade the door, using furniture to block the entryway to his hotel room. Deputies evacuated nearby hotel rooms and negotiators attempted to convince the suspect to come outside, but he remained non-compliant. Because of this, the SWAT team deployed chemical munitions into the room.

The suspect, identified as Joshua Jackson, exited the room at 12:31 a.m. and was then arrested. Once taken into custody, Jackson began spitting at deputies. He was booked on charges of Menacing – Criminal Mischief – Refusal to Leave Premises Upon Request – Attempted 3rd Degree Assault on a Peace Officer x3 – Violation of Bail Bond Conditions x6. Jackson's bond was set at $9,000.
