New Text Message Scam Making Rounds Through Colorado Phones
A new week and another scam is beginning to make its way through cell phones across the state of Colorado.
Fox 31 in Denver reports that the Denver Sheriff's Office has received reports of a text saying they are required to make an appearance in court for a jury duty summons. People then receive a couple follow up texts if they don't respond, making it seem official.
They're told that if they don't appear in court, a warrant will be issued for their arrest.
The text messages contain a link to 'opt out' of jury duty for that go-round - something most people are quite likely to want to try and do - but if you click on it, you're not actually opting out of jury duty that you weren't actually summoned for, you're only giving away your personal information to scammers.

Courts across the state of Colorado and likewise, the Sheriff's Offices in those counties do not send texts for this purpose. Jury summonses are typically mailed out and delivered by the USPS, as no doubt you already know.

You then usually check the county court's website on the day you are supposed to serve to see if your summons number is on the list of those who still need to appear or if you've been excused for that session.
Yet another reminder to never, ever, ever click on any links in texts from people you don't know.
