1 Person Killed Trying to Cross I-25
Between fast speeds and tons of vehicles trying to all get different places at once, driving on the interstate can be stressful, and always requires complete awareness from those behind the wheel. While distractions may be common, it's not often that drivers have to also worry about pedestrians attempting to cross the highway too.
Sadly, for several drivers on I-25 in Colorado Springs on Monday night, this was the case, and ultimately resulted in a tragic outcome.
According to police, around 7:30 p.m. four pedestrians reportedly tried to run across a busy section of northbound I-25. An adult male, who's identity has not yet been released, was struck by a large white van and unfortunately passed away. The driver was extremely distraught following the incident.
During the chaos, two other drivers of separate vehicles became distracted and collided into each other, though it was a minor accident. The stretch of highway where the wrecks occurred remained closed for approximately four hours.
Detectives are in the process of interviewing the three surviving pedestrians that ran across the interstate.
