If you're like me and you spend a lot of time on I-25, especially on the weekends, heads up. This weekend, there are more full closures planned for I-25 and US 34 in Loveland.

According to CDOT, starting at 9 p.m. on Friday, September 24, I-25 will be fully closed under US 34, and US 34 will be fully closed over I-25 until 9 a.m. on Saturday, September 25. The closure is so that crews can demolish the old US 23 bridge that goes over the highway, and will also be in effect 9 p.m. Saturday to 9 a.m. Sunday.

While it may cause delays, the I-25 detour won't be out of your way. CDOT says that I-25 traffic will use the Exit 257 on and off ramps to go over the construction area.

Traffic on US 34 will be a little trickier, however. Westbound US 34 traffic will go north, to Crossroads Boulevard, and eastbound US 34 traffic will go south to CO 402. You can see full closure information and detour routes here.

The bridge demolition is a part of the I-25 North Express Lanes project, between Johnstown and Fort Collins. Work around the US 34 and I-25 area began in the fall of 2019, and has been a congested area for commuters as lanes shifted to share the road with crews. Because of the (seemingly) narrowed lanes and new shifts in alignment, this area has also been prone to a handful of wrecks, including one that resulted in a large fuel spill and another that involved a semi truck hitting the concrete barrier. When construction is completed, there will be an express lane connecting CO 402 and HWY 14 (Mulberry) in Fort Collins.
