##UPDATE##

After publishing my article, I was contacted by the Town of Windsor regarding the closure:

At this time, the closure of eastbound Crossroads has been delayed for further review. Currently, there is no ETA on when that closure may occur, or if it will be the same plan that was previously discussed. The Town Board intends to have another discussion on a date yet to be determined.

So, on the bright side, no detours will be necessary for the time being.

It seems more and more cities/towns in Colorado are embracing the installation of roundabouts over traffic lights. Windsor's big one, coming to Crossroads Boulevard and Colorado Boulevard, is bringing road closures to get it done.

Crossroads Boulevard Closure Planned for October 1, 2026

If you live/work in the Windsor area, hopefully you've seen the traffic signs letting us know that starting October 1, 2026, eastbound Crossroads Boulevard will be closed at Colorado Boulevard (County Road 13).

It was in February of 2026 that we first told you about the upcoming $500,000 roundabout planned for Windsor. In August, they closed southbound Colorado at Crossoards; it was then that the project really began to feel "real."

From the Town of Windsor about the roundabout:

This project, part of the 2020 Transportation Master Plan Update, is intended to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion at the intersection.

I reached out to the Town of Windsor for more information about the eastbound closure (detour info, length of closure), but haven't heard back as of this writing. I would suspect that detour would have travelers head north on Colorado to New Liberty, taking that east to 7th Street (County Road 17) to then head south to get back to Crossroads.

I am really curious to see how this roundabout looks when they get it done, which should be sometime this fall; I travel Colorado Boulevard south to Highway 34 every day after work. I endure the more than half-dozen roundabouts along Rocky Mountain Avenue on my way to Windsor from Loveland; I guess I can handle one big one on my way home.
