Why We Should Root for Miss California During Miss USA Pageant
The 2018 Miss USA Competition is Monday, May 21 in Shreveport-Bossier, Louisiana. It will be broadcast live on FOX. I will not be rooting for Miss Colorado. I am sure she is lovely, but I will be cheering for Miss California, Kelley Johnson. Kelley is a former Miss Colorado (2016) and was 2nd runner-up in the Miss America Pageant. She also happens to be a former Windsor resident, a graduate of Fossil Ridge High School in Fort Collins and a personal friend of ours.
Kelley was on our show a number of times during her reign as Miss Colorado. My favorite had to be during the 28 Hours of Hope. Kelley and her step-father Gene were on the air with us when Cole Swindell called in. It was a very cool moment. Another one of my favorite moments during the year was when Kelley came on stage with me at the Greeley Stampede to introduce Kenny Rogers and Ronnie Milsap. We consider her family, so it only makes sense that we would want her to win the pageant tonight.
Here are a few photos from the time we got to spend with Kelley during her year as Miss Colorado:
