When every deputy takes his or her oath, they accept the responsibility to protect human life. Weld County Sheriff’s deputies fulfilled that responsibility perfectly this week when they saved the lives of 2 individuals in the wake of their attempted suicides.

According to a press release from the Weld County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded at 3 p.m. on Thursday to a residence at the 7000 block of WCR 49 in Hudson on a report of a suicidal party with multiple weapons who refused to exit the residence. In incidents such as these, SWAT Teams are typically deployed as a safe way of handling the situation. However, deputies put forth extra effort to find an alternative to deploying the Weld County SWAT Team, and at 4:57 p.m., deputies were able to convince the individual to exit the residence. The individual was transported to Poudre Valley Hospital’s emergency room for treatment.

Then at approximately 1 a.m. on Friday, deputies responded to the 7000 block of Highway 14 to a report of a suicide in progress. Upon arrival, they found the patient unresponsive. Deputies’ combined efforts with paramedics who arrived on the scene were successful, resulting in the patient’s stable heartbeat. The unidentified individual was transported to Medical Center of the Rockies for further treatment.

We’d like to thank the Weld County Sheriff’s Office, paramedics, the Weld County Regional Communication Center, the Crisis Hotline, and other members in our community for their assistance in saving the lives of these deserving Northern Coloradans.
