Community Walk For Suicide Prevention In Fort Collins
Losing someone by suicide is full of heart wrenching thoughts of "what could I have done differently to ease their pain?" There is no answer to that one. What we do know is that raising awareness and offering support, to those fighting thoughts of suicide, can help. Let's join together as a community for the Out of the Darkness Walk coming up September 9th at Spring Canyon Park in Fort Collins. The event is part of The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention Community Walks that happen across the country.
From the Press Release:
The rate of deaths by suicide in Northern Colorado are increasing at astronomical rates, about 3% in 2017, according to the Larimer County Coroner’s Report.
Suicide is the fourth leading cause of death in people between the ages of 15 and 64, and the 10th leading cause of death in the United States as a whole. In the United States, someone dies from suicide every 12.3 minutes. More Americans suffer from depression than those affected by cancer and coronary heart disease.
The Community Walks, held across the country create movement and give people courage to open up about their own struggles and loss, plus they offer a platform to change our culture’s approach to mental health.
