Mulberry Road was closed at Timberline Road on Saturday morning until around 8 a.m. after a 27-year-old Fort Collins woman was struck by two cars. Colorado State Patrol originally broke the story as a semitruck collision.

Upon further inquiry it appears that Amanda Hilpert was walking westbound on Mulberry, or Colorado Highway 14, across the intersection when she was struck by a Honda passport SUV and then again by a Chevrolet passenger van with a trailer, said Cutler. Hilpert died on the scene.

CSP Master Trooper Gary Cutler said authorities suspect that Hilpert was under the influence of alcohol or drugs and that both of the drivers stopped after the collision. According to the Coloradoan, both drivers were wearing seat belts and had no injuries.

I imagine it would be incredibly traumatic to hit a human being with your car. Regardless of Hilpert's alleged intoxication, this story is very sad for all parties involved and serves as a humbling reminder to drive carefully.

As the winter weather approaches, remember to adjust your braking time accordingly and don't look a your phone while driving. Let's keep each other safe out there.
