The Poudre River is a wild and scenic American waterway. As indicated by the 'scenic' part, it is as beautiful as any river you will ever encounter. The 'wild' is also a major part of that beauty, but also makes caution necessary when approaching or entering it. Some springs and summers, it is downright unsafe to tube the Poudre in Fort Collins. This year, the level is already low and the current is slow. People are flocking to the Cache la Poudre and tubing Fort Collins to stay cool. There is still danger there, and flip flops, though they may seem like a good idea, don't work out for river shoes.

The area between Shields and College is a favorite spot for tubing the Poudre. There are trails on both sides and on a hot day the riverbank will be lined with people. There is limited but reliable parking on Shields, though some areas are posted, so information on the signs should be heeded.
