An incident at the Larimer County Jail caused for a chaotic Monday morning, as three deputies were assaulted by an inmate currently in custody.

At about 9 a.m., Frank Gonzalez began yelling at other inmates and causing a disturbance in his housing unit. When deputies approached the inmate, Gonzalez further escalated the situation by violently kicking his bed, refusing all commands, and attacking the deputies.

Deputies deployed a taser, but Gonzalez continued to put up a fight, grabbing a female deputy around her neck. While this was happening, another deputy delivered approved strikes to Gonzalez until he released his hold on the other deputy's neck. He was ultimately restrained and moved to a cell.

One deputy was treated for a broken hand that was sustained while trying to help the deputy that was being held by the neck. Two of the deputies were treated for abrasions and swelling. Gonzalez was not injured.

Frank Gonzalez was originally booked into the Larimer County Jail on June 21 on allegations of criminal mischief and disorderly conduct. Following Monday's disturbance, deputies will now seek felony charges against him.

Gonzalez self-identified as homeless in the Greeley area.
