Safeway grocery stores are erecting plexiglass sneeze guards at checkout stations to help protect grocery store employees across the country.

The proactive fix to help keep grocery store workers healthy has already been installed in Vail and Frisco. The grocery store announced Friday that the guards will be installed at 2,200 stores over the next two weeks.

Vivek Sankaran, President and CEO said this in a news release:

We are doing everything we can to provide a safe, secure, and comfortable shopping space for our valued customers. This is an extra step to protect our associates who are in constant contact with the public and provide our customers with extra reassurance as well.
