See Smoke? NoCo Regional Airport to Test Crash/Disaster Responsiveness Sept. 20
Often times, to see how you'd do in the event of an emergency, you have to pretend that there is an emergency. Better to practice and be ready, than to be unprepared.
Local agencies will be convening at the Northern Colorado Regional Airport for a full-scale drill to see how they would react and respond to a plane crash there.
On Tuesday, September 20, 2022, a two-hour drill will take place to test emergency plans that are currently in place, and determine what adjustments may need to be made to those plans. It's good to know that they're doing this; Heaven forbid something like a major accident at the airport were to happen, having tested everything, eases the mind.
With this drill, you won't necessarily hear sirens from emergency vehicles as they head out to the airport. They'll be stationing vehicles and equipment at/near the airport, and adding in the estimated time it would have taken them to get to the airport from their original locations.

We may see smoke; that will be part of the drill, which will simulate an "aircraft emergency" southeast of the airport's main runway, with a resulting fire. I think it would be quite an adventure to be one of the volunteers that they have lined up to portray the crash survivors.
WHEN WILL THE DRILL TAKE PLACE?
The 2-hour drill will go from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. on September 20, 2022.
CAN WE COME WATCH?
Though the airport will continue with normal operations, the drill area will be closed to the public.
