Larimer County has a new policy for disposing used motor oil at the Larimer County Landfill.

Effective Friday, March 4, the landfill's oil disposal tank will no longer be available for self service due to continuing contamination concerns and other misuse.

Customers can continue to dispose oil at the Household Hazardous Waste Facility at the landfill (5887 S. Taft Hill Road, Fort Collins), which is open Monday through Saturday (except Wednesday) between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

Larimer County officials ask customers disposing oil at the HHW facility to please bring used oil in containers that can be left for expedited service. Otherwise, a staff member will be there to check oil and dump it into another container.

Only 30 containers 5 gallons or less at a time per customer are allowed to be left at the HHW facility. Large containers are not accepted.

Contaminated oil is accepted for proper disposal or recycling, but officials ask customers to please let an HHW staff member know it is contaminated.
