Loveland Trashes Boulder as the State Leader in Recycling
Recycling is the act of converting waste into something reusable. It's something many of us in Northern Colorado are very familiar with. Rinsing, separating, and breaking down are things we loyally do, hoping it makes a difference.
Loveland is doing it really well! So well, they were named once again as the leader in residential recycling in Colorado. This is the fifth year in a row that Loveland has won.
In 2020, Loveland achieved a 58% recycling and composting rate. This is in contrast to a dropping recycling rate for Colorado overall. This year’s report showed that Colorado’s recycling rates are down from 15.9% last year to 15.3% in the 2021 report.
Second in the state was Boulder with a 53% rate then Longmont, Telluride, and Lafayette in the top five.
The City of Loveland says its "program has always focused on getting recyclable materials into the circular economy by making it easy for our residents to do so.” This summer they added mattresses to their recycling program, which is really rare.
Take advantage of a very informative guide on what can and cannot be recycled in Loveland on their webpage.
The rankings are compiled annually by Boulder-based Eco-Cycle is one of the nation’s largest nonprofit recycling businesses. Winners were announced on America Recycles Day, November 15.
