Marijuana Lands Colorado Man in Nebraska Slammer for 18-36 Months
It's not a good day to be a Colorado stoner in Nebraska.
According to the Associated Press, 69-year-old Steven McElmury of Cedaredge, Colorado, was sentenced on Tuesday to 18-36 months after pleading guilty to possession for sale of marijuana in Nebraska.
So how much did he have on him at the time he was caught? About 515 pounds in his pickup. Wowza!
McElmury had been sent to Nebraska with the truckload of pot when he was pulled over on I-80 near Lincoln on January 21 of this year. A drug-sniffing dog alerted officers to the scent of drugs, which preceded the discovery of marijuana stored in heat-sealed bags stuffed into 4 boxes, 4 duffel bags, and a tote bag.
The Lancaster County Sheriff's Office estimates the amount's retail value at over $2.5 million.
