Colorado has hundreds of dive bars across the state; not that it's a good thing or a necessarily bad thing. Fort Collins has some really great dive bars; one sits inside a building that dates back to 1907 and was once a bank.

Considering that High Point Bar has been open since 2015, I was really surprised that not only had I not been into it, but I hadn't even heard of it until 2026. Then again, a great dive bar has a way of staying off the radar, even if they're right along a main thoroughfare in town.

Built to Be a Bank, Old Building in Fort Collins Has Been Many Things

The building at 146 North College, where High Point Bar is (across from Jax Fish House & Oyster Bar,) dates back to 1907, according to the Coloradoan. When you dig around, you find that Commercial Bank and Trust was the first occupant of the building; in 1914, Commercial Bank and Trust merged with First National Bank. After that, the building was home to a lot of things, including bars, like it is today.

According to the Coloradoan, the owners of another great dive bar, The Trailhead Tavern, also own High Point Bar. I looked up "what was used to be where Trailhead Tavern is on Mountain Avenue:" Among the many businesses, during the late 1940s into the 1950s, it was a 400-seat movie theater, The Trail Theater.

You Can Get $2.50 Beers Every Day at High Point

A good dive bar has to have cheap beer, and High Point checks that box: $2.50 PBRs and Old Aggies, every day. They also carry a wide variety of whiskeys and bourbons that you can enjoy on their big back patio (kind of a hidden gem in town.)
