Back in just December, Frontier Airlines announced that they would begin servicing the Eagle County Regional Airport near Vail with flights to DIA, in addition to Dallas-Fort Worth and San Francisco International Airport a couple times a week.

Now just four short months later, that service is coming to an end - effective immediately.

This past week, the Eagle County airport put out an announcement that Frontier had informed them they were done flying in and out of their facility. This is apparently due to their evaluation of the routes' profitability for the airline and wasn't meeting expectations.

In a statement posted on the airport's website, Director of Aviation David Reid said, "We are certainly disappointed by Frontier’s decision to cease service at EGE. They have been a valued partner, and we recognize the importance of their ultra-low-cost options for our community. We remain committed to providing diverse air service for the Eagle County region and will continue to explore opportunities with other airline partners."

What isn't yet clear is what will happen for people that currently have flights booked after this month, but any passengers holding tickets for upcoming flights should contact Frontier directly for information and hopefully a refund.

Frontier had said in December, when they announced these routes, that there was a strong demand for direct flights into the mountains, of course based on skiing and snowboarding and people traveling here from other states.

Makes sense that some people might like to travel straight to Eagle County rather than the eastern plains where DIA is located, and even better there was an "ultra-low cost" option to do so. But not anymore!
