Loveland Gets a Dollar General; Most Are Generally Unenthused
You'd have to say it's not about it being a Dollar General, it's more about where they put Loveland's first Dollar General.
Honestly, I thought this Dollar General was not where it turned out to be. I was thinking that it was at Taft and 14th Street SW (Highway 402,) by King Soopers. It is not. It's further to the west on 402, at Wilson.
The corner of Wilson and Highway 402 has been an open field for many, many years. Having grown up in Loveland, I'd have to say I cannot remember anything having been here, except maybe more mobile homes like you see to the north.
Now that corner is home to Loveland's one and only (currently) Dollar General.
WHY AT WILSON AND 402?
You do have to wonder what about this corner, this neighborhood, spoke to the people at Dollar General so much?
Maybe it just seemed like an easy place to go; 'start from the ground up' kind of feel.
Maybe they really wanted the old Kmart location at Wilson and Eisenhower, but JAX got it, so they took this spot, instead.

WHAT DO LOVELANDERS THINK OF THE NEW DOLLAR GENERAL?
When the Reporter-Herald posted their story about the store on Facebook, they received some (not so great) comments about it:
- Seems like an odd location.
- ....and yet another store is built while the rest crumble and fail.
- Well , there goes the neighborhood.
- I think the value of the trailer park has gone up.
- Terrible news for that area. Crime will go up just for the fact a dollar general is there.
It will be interesting to see how busy this store gets. I don't think that I'll be terribly surprised if it excels; there isn't another store like it in that part of town, with Dollar Tree being on the north side of the city.
