Taco John’s Keep Closing in Colorado – Who’s Taking Them Over?
Northern Colorado has had an affinity for Taco Joh's for decades, as the company got it start in Wyoming. Loveland's only remaining Taco John's closed in late November of 2025, saddening many. Quickly after, however, another fast food Mexican restaurant announced they were taking over the space.
Having grown up in Loveland, it seems like that Taco John's was just "always there" at that winding turn right between Lincoln and Cleveland. Turns out, that it always had been there: Taco John's started in 1969 and that Loveland spot was one of their first locations. You could say that it was a historic Taco John's that was there on that "weird" corner.
The corner is known for accidents as much as it'd been known for being where Taco John's was. I would think that another business would say, "pass" on opening a spot there; that appears to not to be the case, as t looks like Alvarado's is coming in to put their own "Mexican Fast Food" mark on the spot.
For the first time in 56 years, the building at 1635 North Lincoln was boarded up in late November of 2025
Alvarado's began as a food truck, but opened a brick-and-mortar location in the summer of 2023 in Englewood. Things have been going very well for them it would seem, with them taking on more locations. Alvarado's is fortunate that the former owner of the building in Loveland recently finished a big remodel in 2022, according to QSRMagazine.com.

According to that article, from 2022, that Taco John's owner at the time had five in Northern Colorado: Fort Collins (2), Loveland, Wellington and Windsor. Windsor's Taco John's became an Alvarado's in March of 2025.Business plans change, especially with an ever-changing economy; so I would not be a bit surprised if the three remaining Taco John's that that owner has, also become Alvarado's locations.
