Longmont Woman Arrested After Shooting Neighbor With Crossbow

A Longmont woman who yelled at and then shot her upstairs neighbor has now been arrested, according to an arrest affidavit from the Longmont Police Department (LPD).

9news reports that Katherine Cherry, 60, was arrested on charges of first-degree assault and menacing.

According to the document, Cherry knocked on her upstairs apartment neighbor's door, yelling that she wanted her son back at approximately 1:30 a.m. Friday morning.

The neighbor recognized Cherry through the peephole on her door.

Cherry left, but then returned a couple hours later and began to yell again. However, this time the victim decided to yell back, "Katherine if that is you, you better run," according to the affidavit.

The document states that at this point Cherry "stuck a black crossbow through the door and fired an arrow at her", but the arrow only grazed the victim. The victim swung at Cherry with a hammer because she feared for her life, and then called 911.

A eye witness said he heard yelling and "saw an arrow fly across the hallway", according to the affidavit.

Cherry was taken into custody, the affidavit says.

9news reports that "after being read her rights, she stated that she believed 'Russell' was up in the unit above her, but never mentioned going up there".
