100 Years Ago, There Was a 2-Chair Barber Shop in Johnstown

It's hard to to remember what you had for lunch yesterday, let alone businesses that existed over 100 years ago.

Johnstown, Colorado, was the vision of Harvey Parish, in the early 1900's. You've probably driven on Parish Avenue in Johnstown; Parish named the town after one of his sons, John. Today, about 10,000-15,000 people live in Johnstown; many, many less lived there back in the 1920's.

Though small, Johnstown had to have been busy enough to at least have a barber shop, long ago. How long was this particular barber shop open, is unknown, but we can put a determination that it wasn't open in 1922. The Greeley Tribune recently posted one of their 'This Day in Greeley 100 Years Ago," articles; in it, I found a little blurb about a little barber shop.

The blurb stated that a couple had moved to Johnstown and purchased a two-chair barber shop that they would be turning into their home. It was just a very innocuous statement, but it brought a few questions to mind, here 100 years later:

• How long had the building not been a barber shop before they bought it?
• What was the name of that barber shop?
• Did it sill look like a barber shop after they finished with their changes?
• Where in Johnstown was the barber shop/home located?

Maybe I'm just too curious, by nature, but I'd love to have been able to see both that old barber shop and the home it became. My instincts tell me that not only would it be nearly impossible to figure where the location was, but that there's nothing that remains of that building anymore, anyway.
