Where To See The Most Beautiful Fall Colors In Northern Colorado

It's my favorite time of the year. Sure, summer is great with the heat and the days stretching late. Spring is a fresh start, and winter is a cozy season. But there's just something about fall that I love so much.

Apple picking, pumpkin patches, and the changing of the leaves. That's my favorite part. But when do the leaves change in Colorado, and where are the best places to see the change?

When Do The Leaves Change?

Here's the general rule in Colorado.

• High Country-  Mid-September
• Mountain Towns- Mid-to-late September
• Northern Colorado foothills- Late September into early October
• Fort Collins, Loveland, Greeley- Usually early to mid-October

Where are the best places to see changing leaves?

There are some amazing locations in the mountains with breathtaking views of the leaves changing.

• Estes Park is such an amazing place to see the leaves changing. The drive is perfect, and it's also a direct line to Rocky Mountain National Park.
• Grand Lake is full of beautiful Aspen trees and a lake that reflects all of the colors.
• Steamboat Springs is my family's go-to spot to see the changing leaves.

Now let's look closer to home. Here are gems right here in Northern Colorado.

• The Oval at CSU is one of the prettiest spots in Fort Collins to see the leaves changing.
• City Park in Fort Collins has some incredibly large and very old trees. The park is also located next to a lake.
• Downtown Loveland has beautiful, mature trees in its older neighborhoods.
• Bittersweet Park is located in Greeley, and it's the perfect place to see the fall leaves. It also has a long walking trail.
