No good weather this time of year in Colorado goes unpunished and that couldn't be more true this weekend.

After highs near and in the 50's Wednesday, Thursday and Friday this week, come Friday afternoon the temperature across Northern Colorado will plummet as snow moves into the area.

And not just plummet, but we are likely headed for what they call a 'flash freeze,' something not often seen in the state.

A flash freeze occurs when relatively warmer temps like what we've had quickly fall below freezing, turning any moisture on the ground nearly instantly into ice. In other words, if you're on the roads Friday afternoon and they appear just wet, according to our friends at Denver7, it would be wise to assume that's ice you're about to drive on, not just a wet road.

Snow should begin Friday afternoon with some gusty winds at times. The bulk of the snow accumulation will be Friday night, with a couple to a few inches possible across our Northern Colorado cities. As always, mountain cities like Estes Park will likely see a little bit more.

Snow will continue on and off over the weekend, but the real story will be how cold it is. Wind chill temps will be soundly below zero, especially with the start of the new workweek come Monday.

Snowfall totals through Monday across NoCo are projected to be 3-4 inches in Fort Collins and Loveland, 3 inches or so in Windsor and Greeley and 4-6 inches in Estes Park, while the Denver metro area and southern counties will see more like 5-6 inches. Cheyenne, WY - not to be ignored - should only see an inch or two.
