The upcoming elections in November will have a variety of choices, but in Golden, CO, the folks will get to vote on whether to lower the voting age to 16. According to 9News-Denver, the City Council voted unanimously to put the question on the ballot.

If the measure passes and the age is dropped, their voting power would be restricted to just municipal elections, not federal or state elections.

City Council member Laura Weinberg told 9News that "starting lifelong voting habits and increasing voter turnout are both great outcomes." According to the US Census, less than 50% of those who are 18-29 vote in big elections.

There are two towns in Maryland that have lowered their local voting ages with other towns considering the same. Washington D.C. is considering lowering the age to 16 for the upcoming 2020 presidential election.
